I know of, I believe, one of the earliest known science fiction novels dealing with
nanotechnology. As a plus, it's a great "hard" science fiction story and written
before the term nanotechnology. The bad news is that it's out of print.

The book is PEOPLE MINUS X by RAYMOND Z. GALLUN. The setting is a future of
uncontrolled biotechnology where the hero and heroine use a multi-stage micro-
scopic process to reduce themselves, in several stages, to microscopic size.

If you can find it thru a library or used book dealer, give it a read - it's great!
