n-sf: How converting sand in Si + O?

I'm looking for a book that explains how to convert sand in Si and
Oxigen.
I know actually temperatures of thousand degrees are actually needed, and I
haven't
found any book explaining how, tough many of them takes it as obvius. If you
have read
a book explaining it, e-mail me, please (It doesn't matter if it is a
science-fiction or
a science book)
