I have been a member of the Curch of Virus List for only three weeks
(about as long as I've known about memes).
In that time I have gone from completely rejecting the whole idea
(thinking it reduced the role of human imagination and creative activity
in the production and reproduction of art) to becoming completely
infected by the (meta)meme.
My background is in theatre and I have come to regard the meme idea as
something that would benefit performance theory because, like marxist,
feminist and postmodern theory, it enables one to look at the *purpose*
of the art/discourse/narrative.
The replication of old narratives as new discourses is what theatre
practitioners are trained to do. I am wrestling with a way of
introducing the meme into my "toolbox" of ideas and perceptions.
David, the manager of the Church of Virus List has encouraged me to
start Virus Theatre, a theatre company that will exist only on the
internet (for now) where theatre practioners will be invited to talk,
collaborate, create. Memetics will be part of our mission statement.
I was wondering if you would be able to make yourself available to this
project on occasion?
Virus Theatre is still a fresh idea and has not yet been developed into
a "real" thing, so I can't be specific about my request. If you have any
