I would say QM looks "mystical" because of a few things.  One is
the apparent contradiction of how entities behave sometimes like
a particle, other times like a wave.  There is no classical 
analogy to this behavior.  The other reason is that most people
do not study it and it remains a exotic, erudite topic. 
I think it was Albert once said if you can't explain something to 
a 10 year old, you don't understand it fully.
