I'm a newby...just a comment on "Availability/accessibility _isn't_
essential to the transmission of a meme..." I see the key word here to be
"essential". I would agree that availability isn't the *essential*
criteria. Those who say it is are stuck in the darwinistic idea of survival
of the fittest. Memes are Lamarkian. They survive because they are
*cooperative* by nature. They survive by evolutionary mechanisms which fall
under "replication" instead of "reproduction". Things replicate because
they are IDEAL. I would suggest that the essential requirement for the
replication of memes is that they approach the ideal...to improve one's work
would therefore be more important than to share one's work.
