Well, I have. Silk Cut runs ads with no words in them, clever visual
puns. I saw one in the London Underground 13 years ago, and one about 6
years ago on the back cover of _Punch_. The latter showed a pair of
scissors feeding a scrap of ribbon to baby pairs of scissors in a nest,
with the "Her Majesty's Government has determined" warning the only text
present. Had I not previously heard of the brand, I wouldn't have had a
clue, and as it was it took me a while. The tube ad I can't actually
remember, but on seeing the _Punch_ ad I realized I'd seen a similar one
in London years before and not known what it meant. So, anyway, they do
advertise, and clearly fairly effectively as image-survival goes. But I'm
still not buying them.
