Yes. Though in fact I'd already realised I made a mistake
in saying that. The way this scenario is set up inclines
one towards thinking in objectivist terms, because in fact
only part of our lives is like this. As I said recently, we
are, in the most general terms, not concerned primarily
with finding out how things really are -- that is just a
means to an end. What we are most generally interested
in is happiness. That is what we are looking for, and
though finding consistency in things around us certainly
helps towards that end, there are many, many times
when the pursuit of happiness requires that we deal
with other issues.

The question, for me, is not whether that is a
good thing to do, but how much time and
effort should be devoted to it. Seems to me
that such basic, reality-checking stuff can
be put on auto most of the time, while we
get on with living our lives.
