I see this as another facet of the debate that I'm having with
Robin. Robin argues that the entire concept of sainthood is biased since
"anyone" can change a paradigm. I argue that it takes a unique
configuration of opportunity, talent, and desire to be nominated. The fact
that for the past two thousand years more white men then others on the
planet have had the opportunity to create the current paradigm should not
minimize their contribution. All other configurations <like Soleri in
Amadeus who had opportunity and desire but no talent> are admittedly tragic,
but them's the breaks.
